Prophecy 1

Knowledge that collapses space-time boundaries is evidence of Intelligence that transcends space-time. As 1st Corinthians 14:25 indicates, whenever the unlearned encounter the Voice of Prophecy and the secrets of their hearts – the secrets of past, present and future are manifested, the only response is awesome awareness of the display of Divinity. – The mind of God , accessible to men bound in space-time, giving access beyond the sheer curtain of material reality we apprehend with our five senses, to knowledge and wisdom from dimensions unencumbered by the laws of physics we hold so sacred in our culture.

The phenomenon, although  bizarre for  persons encumbered with the limiting axioms of western education, is an authentic human experience attested by peoples from almost every human civilization in recorded history.

Prophets with abilities to screen, sometimes at will, distant elements of space time – familiar or unfamiliar, from the traditional prophetic communities among the Serer people of Senegal, where prophetic craft has been practiced to such great refinement that the cost of inaccuracy is suicide (as once occurred en masse in the last century when such a company of prophets failed to have pre-cognizance of a particular earthquake which devastated the community- which wasn’t even inaccuracy, but prophetic negligence!)* to the modern prophets and prophetic schools that have emerged in the Christian Church’s charismatic circles, along with the many dabblers in between, not including of course the much too many charlatans, demagogues and overexposed neophytes who disgrace the noble profession, all continue to demonstrate that the gift is both authentic, powerful and potentially very useful.

What in fact may be more interesting than prophetic accuracy is prophetic inaccuracy – obviously not among novices but with masters – those with very long and proven track records for reliability, accuracy and high levels of discernment. (Of all the many Christian prophets today) , only two*  to the best of my awareness (have 100% public records of accuracy – should the standards of the Serer people – or the Old Testament standards of the Jews apply (not suicide but public slaughter) we might be in danger of ‘prophecide’ – the total extinction of the gift.

Human failure has often proven richer soil for the excavation of knowledge than human success. Now that the gift, once submerged necessarily, being so out of sync with the axioms of modernity whose science, still largely overshadowed by Newtonian mechanics, is yet to admit capacities of human consciousness it cannot conceive within the limitations of its atomistic, biology-bound framework, is rising again to more widespread visibility,  perhaps the truer and deeper meaning of the prophetic voice in the human enterprise will inspire deeper thought.

This meaning might not come across clearly in the deism of spirit mediums encumbered with fantastic and colorful cosmologies, much too irrational to be meaningfully embraced by modernity. And even for those loathe to accept any of the great monotheistic faiths or whatever purported pantheon, old or new, with its cumbersome and problematic frames of reference, greater promise, if only a whisper, can be placed in the theistic view that, across the boundaries of the familiar dimensions of reality we  have already explored, hidden in the mystery of unfolding life, is a Voice….at once intimate yet also strange, almost like a lost relative (or are we the lost ones?), cutting through human chaos, saying “Come. Come.” Rev 22:17,

The song Oceans is now one of Hillsong’s greatest hits and one of the more popular Christian worship songs on the internet. That passionate, intimate response of every believer, “I am yours and you are mine” Solomon 6:3 is the assurance at the end that makes for the highly popular resonance.
