Continuing my reflections on prophecy:

I judge  the stature of a prophet by his/her familiarity with and understanding of the ways of Power. Seasoned prophets have always had the ability to see into the chambers of Kings and  navigate with demonstrated prowess the corridors of power.

Divining one’s bank account pin number or personal and health problems can be entertaining but the destiny of nations and the rising and fall of kingdoms are a much more complicated subject. 

The three ‘tents’ of consciousness mirrored in the Lord’s prayer are :-

1. content (i.e. of one’s character – “Hallowed be thy name”).
2. potent – (i.e.  scope of one’s influence -“Thy kingdom come”) and
3. intent  – (i.e. direction and intensity of one’s focus – “Thy Will be done”.

While leading edge Psychological studies focus on intention and attention giving us fabulous vistas into the inner workings and possibilities of mind, the Theological emphasis is on character /content, which fundamentally affects the quality and effectiveness of intent/desired objective,  ‘attent’/(focus of awareness) and the potential both together have.

Almighty God we might say eternally dwells in ‘tents’ –  temples are but temporary vehicles. But I digress.

I remember publishing just before the 2016 US election the following prophetic circular of a prayer group to which i belong (prophet unnamed):

 A mature prophet will deal with national elections (the sovereign choice of a people group) very delicately. With no ax to grind and nothing to prove, it serves no purpose announcing that one can watch a football match or a national election on an internal ‘screen’, days or months before the event. And regardless the clarity of one’s prophetic vision, nothing really crystallizes till the event ‘wave function‘ collapses, and if another seer of similar focus and scope interferes with the vision, then everything changes. (This explains the Hezekiah effect.) 

Premature publicity can inveigh against prophetic certainty (and event certainty is not the purpose of the prophetic gift anyway- that would mean time itself is mechanical and freewill an illusion of consciousness.)

The heavens’ concern transcends particular human outcomes.   As the cited document declares….prophecy’s content –  truth/justice) is all the purpose/will of the  Power and the Glory.

Divine Power is not deterministic but facilitative. Put another way, Character, not Magic  (the ‘mindipulation’ of space time events)  nor, its sister, Technology  (the manipulation of space time events) is destiny. Therefore, before any will be done, or any kingdom come, the hallowing of one’s name is essential.

Divine or Holy Power concerns itself with  development and destiny, not control of events and most certainly not control of human will. Character ‘trumps’ power and human perspectives. God apparently sees himself more a conference chairman than the ‘King of the Universe’ some so stylize Him; – A divine facilitator…..not a divine dictator.

Those of us with prophetic gift or office are best reminded that if the Source of Omniscience considers himself a servant, then dare we exalt ourselves to a higher plane because of a gift which allows us to see still only in part, or pretend to be some exalted Merlin tinkering with human life. The most wonderful biblical epithet for prophet in the scriptures is the Servant of the Lord (and therefore of the people who belong to Him).
