Same voice. Same views. Different days. No collusion. Different Christian families. Similar aged daughters.
Q. What is it about church that turns you off?
A. Consistently three points raised:
- Judgment – I want to be affirmed and feel that I am in a safe place
- Obligation – I want to be wooed, welcomed and recognized not pressured
- Control – You want to talk to me but don’t want to listen to me
The hope is that even if millennials resist all that religious indoctrination after exposure to the wider. liberal world, they’ll be back like the prodigal son after their rebellion to raise their own children in church to fulfill scripture (“Train up a child”).
And it often works, or has worked for many….but there’s an increasing attrition rate. Maybe we should listen:
