God and Politics: Trinary thinking

In my article Defining Observations, I stated,

The political dimensions of religion are often ignored. However this renders both at best anemic, at worst evil.

For all the practical and valid reasons that the movement towards clear distinction and separation of Church and State was historically both clearly progressive and  purgative. and that moment in history will and should never be revisited, the clock of history cannot  be reversed; there yet remains an inseparable connection between religion and government, between values and policy, between theology and jurisprudence. How can you separate the conception of Supreme Potentate with the rivers of power that flow from that source throughout all  human society. God is the very conception of ultimate Authority, Rule and Law.

Theocracy was and is a repugnant idea …… to both man and God. The God of the Bible started out by ceding earthly government to man. What kind of psycho wants to control  adults? The concept of free will and human responsibility is logically consonant with the concept of free and fair elections. Even if established by hindsight, Democracy was clearly a God-thought from the beginning. Kingship was never a God idea. Israel provoked God into allowing them to copy the surrounding heathen nations.

Likewise this notion of making God out to be some Divine Monarch, a Heavenly Sovereign seated upon a throne ruling over all etc etc is clearly also another divine concession to human imagination and insecurity. Thank God, Jesus came painting a true picture of Lordship through faithful service. By making First Last and Last First he capsized and  confounded ego, and the imagination perverted by its inordinate desire. We are still to get that lesson straight in the church. We’re still vying for seats at the table like  immature and untrained disciples not yet sanctified unto an apostolic commission.

This infantile thinking for me is best defined by a limited binary outlook on life. Everything is black or white, good or evil, this or that. Don’t get me wrong, I am astounded by the power of binary calculus. Left brained logic is responsible for most of the architecture of modern technology. That  most of our knowledge of reality can be reduced to yes / no, 1 / 0 logic is evinced by the very tool I’m using to communicate this thought.

But for all the hopes pegged on the development of Artificial Intelligence, it is perhaps significant that the Language of the book of Life (DNA) has 4 not two characters. (ACG&T) There is more to life than simply this or that. It helps though to at least start there. But man was not created a machine. We are capable of much more than this or that.

So I wish to introduce a third dimension to give some depth and height to this world of good and evil our eyes have been opened to, and the often stultifying back and forth of our democracies with so many of our Parliaments looking more like a giant play-pen with children  under no adult supervision, rather than a house of Lords, a council of Powers (elohim) in session.

The dimension of increase or growth. The logic that allows good to come from bad, the same dimension that turns water into wine. The dimension that sees process, not just static, immutable law, but explores nuance, mines the grey, looks for color. Let me call this INSIGHT. Where attention is not given to the matter which appears only but excavates the source of the apparent, looking for purpose. I want to see a different kind of politics, and a different understanding of God that goes beyond the capitalist limitations of our present understanding of the law of the house we are in.

I may sound cryptic and impractical at first. Give me time. All conception requires a gestation period to logically formulate its intrinsic ideas. Consider this an introduction to a commonly themed series.
