Power and Dependency

For humans, power is indispensable. Our DNA seems coded with an innate need for control. We are not satisfied with merely being here. We want to know that while we are here, we take control.

We also have the disposition to adapt and to surrender. We would not have survived this far without it. But given the choice, we’ll choose to take charge….to command the elements. To determine the way things go for us. We have a distinct preference for power.

Dependency, although a fact of life, is for us a necessary evil. We all need something and someone to survive. We would rather color or occlude that fact with the illusion of control. We kill. We eat. We make provision for our own needs. Dependency for us is a pejorative.

The most beautiful spirit is one who acknowledges both…..without shame or fear. Jesus put it this way – a man under authority dispensing authority. Knowing one’s place in the food chain. Knowing who to pray to, servicing those and that given to your stewardship. The definition of true humility….knowing your place. A system of integrity. Perfect conduit for power. No internal obstructions…..absence of struggle. No boundaries breached.

Of course, the antithesis is the insecure, the braggadocios, the graspingly ambitious. They lack the one condition that allows for the creative use of power – sensitivity. Being inordinately infatuated or preoccupied with self, unable to perceive accurately their own value, nor the value of others. An irritant in any community. Left to their own devices, viral in effect.

I waited for some time before I unreservedly endorsed Alph Lukau. Not that there were not other carriers of equally potent prophetic gifts. It’s his character and motives I was observing. Many who have experienced the superconscious (for want of a more appropriate term) dimension, have themselves become spoiled by their abilities. Prophetic activation can easily make one somewhat of a superman amongst mere mortals. (See the Prophecy Series)

And much of the wishy-washy theology fed the new ‘independent’ evangelical churches have just exacerbated the problem. One beginning to experience the divine (again….for want of a better term) power of sight and action, can easily begin to believe that one is the Hand and Eye of God on earth….(and true though that may be in a particular sense) the behavior and attitudes of such bear witness (whether or not their utterances are accurate or their anointing efficacious) – Boundaries are breached and the Purpose of God [envisioned in the Christian Faith as the Embodiment and Source of Love] (temporarily) sidelined.

In my blogs, I speak to (or ‘speak of’ ….for those who might accuse me of delusions of grandeur) a beloved audience of 7 billion. According to the Scriptures sacred to the Christian tradition, 7 billion souls each one of them worthy of deicide for redemption. The power hungry, the vain and insecure are incapable of representing such a valuation. Ultimately their forgery will be exposed and their ministry improved or removed. (See What do you think about Jesus)

But Alph Lukau gets it. He may appear before men as a Mighty Man of God. But that’s only because he has appeared before God as a dependent and needy child. I still heartily recommend his ministry. Now more than ever in these times when astute and honest religious and political leadership seem so rare.
