The Sound of Many Waters

It would be instructive to understand how government works in heaven for those who would pray sincerely “Thy will be done on earth”. One of the most perverse portrayals of the character of God is that of divine dictator, where all required of men and angels is perfect obedience and any deviation is met with sanctions. This no doubt informs Jesus’ priority in true and holy prayer. Any focus on will and dominion without first establishing the name and character of King and kingdom is doomed to disaster. So Hallowed be Thy Name.

This infantile projection of Strict Parent and obedient/disobedient children could be excused when social systems were narrowly focused on survival in a hostile environment. Men still resort reflexively to the military ethos of Do-as-you-are-told-without-question when under threat, or when creating threat seems useful to leaders.

However social systems having arrived at even a measure of enlightenment all grasp the wisdom of counsel and councils in self government – The way of God from the beginning of time. Whether in conference with the members of the Godhead, or the wider council of Powers (Elohim) – The sons of God, Heaven makes no policy decision without consultation and the vote.

When God speaks, it is the sound of many waters that thunders. This is why no power can resist His will Who is Supreme….he speaks with the power of the ALL in all. (Who have you excluded from your council?)

That is why God’s judgments are altogether righteous. Notice how under Nathan’s prophetic judgement David’s own voice convicted him? Self righteousness – the ‘right seemingness’ of personal opinion is weak and powerless and elicits illicit force for execution.

The binary opposition popularly called ‘democracy’ is both a human invention and a perversion of heaven’s truth. Chinese bureaucracy, for all its flaws and abuses more reflects the layered consultation and grass roots participation of the glimpses of heavenly government we get in Psalm 82 and the books of Job and Genesis.

The word ‘vote’ comes from the word ‘voice’. The problem modern western style ‘democracies’ have is in listening to and honoring the voice of the people. (Honoring will is a definition of love)

The farce becomes obvious with the strife and contention attending the electoral process, more about the manipulation of the people than their satisfaction – a natural outcome of being ‘heard’. Why would anyone even conceive of trying to predetermine or predict someone’s sovereign prerogative? The Biblical injunction is to prefer not deter those of different perspectives. To hear not conquer one’s fraternal opponents.

When heaven is in council on a matter, the Chairman asks a question, “Have you considered…” whether the matter on reflection be a person like Job or a policy like beguiling a hostile king to his defeat. (Heaven’s hostiles are often considered friendlies on earth. Not many people understand Paul’s admonition to be wary of him who does not spare the branches but lops off every unproductive limb….it doesn’t fit the hyper grace model of the times)

Then the voice of the many waters is heard. When heaven votes, a majority vote is sign of incompletion … of greenness, unlike earth where majority rule means domination and oppression not concession and appeasement. Heaven is secure enough to wait for a matter to be ripe. The fullness of time. The evil rush seems reasonable until consequence hits.

The rule of heaven is unity. That’s why it is the sound (singular) of many waters (plural). Heaven has only one vote….and it alone counts, because by the time it has been made, every angle has been examined, every angel has been engaged and every perspective considered.

It is now time for Us to create desired change.
