We’ve only just begun

The dispensationalists (Evangelicals and Charismatics) … cling to an obviously schizophrenic theology: an eschatology that preaches the failure of the Holy Spirit in social transformation, and a soteriology (doctrine of salvation) that preaches the comprehensive personal transformation that the Holy Spirit produces.” Gary North The Dominion Covenant

North believed this implicit theological schizophrenia would eventually be resolved as the doctrinal shallowness of the vastly popular (and certainly fantastic) fairly recently introduced (by Finis Dake and amplified amongst fundamentalists by the 70’s Hal Lindsey / Tim Lahaye sensationalist authors ) Pre-, Post- and Mid-Trib. Pre-Millenialists, which North calls the Pessi-millenialists, became challenged by what he considers the Post Millenial Orthodoxy of Christian Reconstructionism.

But even taking into account the spread of Quasi-Dominion Theology in the current Kingdom Now movement in Charismatic circles, the “Left Behind” crowd is still ‘Right in front’ of much of the current apocalyptic (what a corruption in word usage) apoplexy as the waning Christian influence in the public square of that hapless remnant of church militants, led by an increasingly recognizably unstable, intellectually shallow and seriously misguided leadership in the likes of Lance Walnau, Dutch Sheets and a host of White Evangelical North American extremists now preoccupying themselves whether in anti-vax campaigns, gender progressive protests, a losing battle for illegalization of abortion or making strange bedfellows with White Supremacist quacks as Political Conservatism makes the switch with Liberalism as the politics of the elite.

Should Caribbean church leadership remain beholden to this increasing cesspool of convoluted religion, what chances are there of carving out a path of victory in times that, in spite of the lamentations of Rev. Delford Davis at the loss of the ‘freedom to worship’ in these ‘last days’, perhaps we are only at the ‘beginning of sorrows’.

The popular and feckless Sweet Bye and Bye, Caught-up-in-the-air Christianity has blended wonderfully within our decadent culture. There is relatively no earthly transformative impulse in these widely unquestioned, ill conceived, fairly modern doctrines. A church in chronfusion might require a lamp.
