Chronfoundment

For twenty years, I have largely remained silent about certain popularly accepted, and almost never questioned cosmogenetic presuppositions of fundamentalist believers, wishing to steer clear of controversy. However, if one’s vision of the past is impaired, so likely will their depth understanding of the present and their ability to accurately project into the future.

For all my interest in elements of Gary North’s pragmatic /fantastic (depending on one’s point of view) post-millenialist futurism, (and I certainly endorse a perusal of his economic commentary on the Bible beginning with The Dominion Covenant, and for those unacquainted with Post-millenialism, David Chilton’s Paradise Restored and Days of Vengeance are classic reads…BTW, the first mentioned Book is a Preterist commentary on the book of Genesis, the last a Preterist commentary on the book of Revelation and the middle, a Preterist general summation of plot of both and all in between. ) I took particular note of his (North’s) apparently self-proclaimed (in other writings) failed attempt to square Biblical chronology (as one who religiously maintains the validity of a literal 7 24 hr.- day cosmogenesis) with the so called ‘secular‘ (???) chronology of ancient Egypt.

Like so many other ‘problematic’ (a kind word, but ‘futile’ seems too strong) issues with the fundamentalist self-induced necessity to ‘harmonize’ totally incongruous fact and belief, (a perfectly torturous example of which can be found here) the dismal results seem forever destined to produce the kind of tragicomic quasi ‘scholarship’ typified by the James Ussher approach of reading the Bible as History rather than Literature, a hang over of Nicean necessity to dogmatize faith and kick at declared heretics.

A functional Ecumenicity can never derive from dogmatists. Yet those who long for the Spirit’s breath into dried bones cant escape the promise that it is the Spirit (not the word) that will also lead into all truth. All Christians need a higher vision…a renewed attitude….

Bob Marley sang the truth indeed “Time alone. Time will tell”
