Christ the Server is born

“Jesus is Lord!” was as subversive a declaration as can be imagined, directly attacking the heart of the mighty global superpower of ancient Rome, bringing it to its knees within three centuries. All the armaments of war and terror securing the Caesar cult, ideological sanctum of Roman rule, could not withstand the power of that declaration, sealed with the testimony of the blood of the martyrs.

Today however, as autocrats and power-hoarders attempt a concerted comeback, talk of dominion, power and glory are quite passe. Saviors of all kinds abound.

Better to decode the meaning of ‘Lord’ as it appears in the Jesus-dictionary: ‘the one who serves’.

So today Christians celebrate the birth of the Server of the world with festivities and lights. If we can remember the meaning of the towel and foot basin, and determine to emulate His example in action and attitude in the times that lay before us, perhaps indeed, His Kingdom might find a true place in our hearts.

Merry Christmas.

  1. Thanks so much for this well-needed reminder. It really resonates with me as my heart is also pondering along the same lines with much prayer for our fellow brothers and sisters in “Christendom” to be cognizant of and to be intentional in their emulation of and submission to the ‘Jesus WAY’ of living which is service to others. God bless you, my brother. Love as always, Angel
