While fact and fiction are definitely opposed, truth and fiction are not. In fact, some of the world’s greatest truths are communicated by fiction, not facts. All Jesus’ teachings on the nature of the kingdom of God – (the metaphysical realm or spiritual domain) were communicated by parable – fiction. The most powerful books and films are fictitious.
Facts are too particular, too individualistic to communicate effectively truth. Truths are ‘principular’ (to coin a word) – transcendental… i.e. they are governmental and must of necessity be stated in abstraction, and painted with broad brushes, allowing for a range of contextual, spatio-temporal interpretation. While facts are governed by truth, their particularity renders them too constrictive to adequately portray the truths that are at the source of their embodiment.
The current US president’s love affair with hyperbole and fantasy, his disdain for fact in speech and governance is not the greatest abomination of leadership. His contempt for TRUTH, the foundation of Justice/Balance is. It is miraculous that the nation has already not been attacked by her enemies. When a person or nation strays from what the Ancient Egyptians called Maat – (Truth, Justice, Balance); that is a sign of impending doom.
Most persons do not have an accurate understanding of what Confucianists call the Tao, or what Jesus meant when he said ‘I AM life’ (truth and justice)…..because we conflate transcendent truth with spatio temporal particularness of expression. It is annoying to hear obvious philosophical neophytes (in Science and Religion) distress themselves debating themes like Universalism and Absolutism or arguing about Relativity – myopic vision trying to cram the entire universe into the limited conceptual framework of some particular scientific axiom or religious idea their ego has an ongoing love affair with.
The disingenuous acrobatics required to ‘make it all fit’ and put a serious face on in its defence is as pathetic as the Trump saga itself – somewhere between the fanatic enthusiasts with heads buried in the sand and the bloodthirsty mob of enemies crying for the king’s head on a pole, truth….precious truth is ignored.
And notions that should outrage a nation in pulse with the One called in the Book of Revelations The Amen. “Faithful and True”*, like the spectacle of a president of one nation expressing more public confidence in one’s adversaries than in one’s own government and institutions, one’s own TEAM; become cheap entertainment – a political game-show. (Dangerous game).
* and indeed there is only that ONE – there is no other God, truth, nor higher Principle of Being.
That is the abomination that maketh desolate, treasonous behaviour, an egotistical act of self worship in defiance of all reasonable standards of that Blessed Truth that upholds the internal strength and integrity of every system… be it in biology, physics, technology, sport, ethics etc. Every law of rationality (save ego worship alone, the scope of rationality for which is questionable) requires the absolute censure of such behaviour. To use Jesus’ words: “A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand”, or to quote President Trump himself (or his speechwriter) “We need to be united at home to face our enemies abroad.”
An attitude of awe….. respect for that which is, prepares one to unravel secrets of Being. Contempt does the exact opposite. It blinds one from truth.
Apart from in the dictionary, only in the lexicon of cowards (and egomaniacs too I imagine) does ‘Legal’ come before ‘Loyal’.
Lines have been crossed. Folly has its wages.
