Item 2

Mache wouj  (Red market)

Dimension : 20*24 inches

Artist Profile – Désir Wildor

Wildor Louis is a painter originally from the Southeast of Haiti who grew up in the countryside. For approximately 30 years, he developed an artistic practice rooted in observing everyday life and the social realities of rural communities.

The artwork presented here, titled “Red Market”, is inspired by the atmosphere and movement that characterize market days across different communities in rural Haiti. His works often highlight memory, color, and the dynamics of collective life, although his themes were not limited solely to market scenes.

To create his artworks, Wildor Louis used materials such as canvas, wood, nails, as well as acrylic and oil paints. After nearly 30 years of creating art, he laid down his brushes about 10 years ago, but his works continue to reflect his vision and the mark he left on artistic heritage.

Item 3

Rara Abstrè (Abstract Rara)

Dimension : 20*24 inches

Artist Profile – Louis Saurel

Saurel Louis is a Haitian painter from Port-au-Prince who has been practicing canvas painting since the 1990s. His artistic journey began through an art workshop in the neighborhood where he grew up, under the guidance of Rodrigue Joseph and Frantz Cazile.

For this work, the artist presents “Abstract Rara”, a piece rooted in personal memory and Haitian cultural heritage. During his youth, he often took part in Rara celebrations and danced alongside his childhood friends—experiences that left a lasting mark on his imagination and continue to inspire his creative practice.

In this painting, Saurel Louis transforms the movement, rhythm, and energy of Rara scenes into an abstract visual language, offering an emotional and vibrant interpretation of one of Haiti’s most deeply rooted cultural expressions.

Item 4

Claire Obscure

Louis Saurel is a Haitian painter originally from the Western Department of Haiti, specifically Port-au-Prince. He has been working in canvas painting since the 1990s, after joining an art workshop in the neighborhood where he lived. This experience marked the beginning of his artistic journey and allowed him to develop under the guidance of his mentors, Rodrigue Joseph and Frantz Cazile.

Although he did not grow up in a provincial town, several visits to the hometowns of his mother and father exposed him to the richness of Haitian landscapes. These experiences left a lasting impression on his artistic sensitivity and gradually became one of the central themes of his work.

In this artwork Saurel Louis describes his approach as a “Claire obscure” landscape, where the interplay of light and shadow is used to create atmosphere, depth, and emotion. The work is produced using materials such as wood, canvas, nails or staples, along with various types of paint.

In his artistic practice, landscape goes beyond the representation of physical space; it becomes a way of expressing memory, emotion, and the artist’s relationship with the Haitian territory.
